There are fix rules of pronunciation in German like in Italian, the irregular pronunciations are usually objects of quizzes! I cannot say if I've found German "natural" because of my roots or because about pronunciation it's like Italian: you read like you write. I have developed a fluent English using it.
Now, if I avoid to write, French is quite "natural" for a North Western Italian.
In Italy we exaggerate with foreign languages! Personally I've studied English, German and French.
